Our first half term
Hornbeam begins Year 5
Throughout the first half term, the children have settled well into their new year group and have begun working towards the year 5 standards.
Together, we have greatly enjoyed learning about the Ancient Greeks and particularly loved having our grandparents come and share in our lesson on Greek theatre and masks. The children were particularly mindful of the school values and sharing their love and experiences with their grandparents.
We have enthusiastically performed a range of classic poetry including The Walrus and the Carpenter and Cautionary Tales. During our National Poetry Day, we focused on War Poetry where the children created some thoughtful and emotive poems which they shared with one another.
To celebrate Harvest Festival we went together to Sacred Heart and participated in a lovely mass reminding us of how we should help and support others.
At the end of the half term, we celebrated our house saints by spending a lesson together in our houses. We learnt about our house saint and created some beautiful artwork based on them.
We are looking forward to the lead up to Christmas and learning about Advent. During our topic lessons we will be learning about Materials and their Properties and conducting fun investigations.
