Science Week Part 1

We have had a wonderful time learning about Antarctica, visiting the mobile planetarium and conducting two science investigations.

We learned where Antarctica is in the world, what the weather is like there, what animals live there, who discovered it and what important work scientists now do there.  We also managed to do some Art work on Purple Mash of Antarctic landscapes.

We visited the Mobile Planetarium and were told all about the solar system and the International Space Station.

Our first Science Investigation was finding out which materials made the best thermal insulators.  Having discovered just how cold it is in Antarctica, we wanted to see what materials would be best to keep things warm.

We discovered that the cotton wool was the best insulator, closely followed by the bubble wrap and the tin foil was the worst.  A big 'thank you' to our lovely kitchen staff who let us freeze our pots of water overnight in their freezer.

Our second investigation looked at how exercise affects our bodies.  We wrapped up as warmly as we could in our coats before we went outside.  After doing a range of rigorous exercises lots of us got so hot that we had to take off layers of clothes.
